- 1. A website that is “Gamera WET compliant” is competely accessibile with respect to the Stanca law?
-
No. Unfortunately, until Gamera WET can be integrated to existing assisted evaluation processes, it will not be possible to declare in absolute terms, using a method that is exclusively automatic, the total conformity of a website with respect to a particular standard or law. Nevertheless, it is possible to carefully implement the reverse process: a site that is declared non-conforming according to Gamera WET standards is categorically inaccessibile.
- 2. Can Gamera WET identify broken links?
-
Definitely. Gamera WET recognises that an unavailable resource is a serious problem when it comes to accessibility and quality. Gamera WET is capable of identifying so-called broken links, or rather, connections to non-existent web pages that usually produce the response: HTTP Status code 404 (Not found). Not only, Gamera WET is capable of also discovering links to non-existing anchors (also known as resource fragments).
- 3. I have just modified my website. Why should I continue to use Gamera WET?
-
Whether your website is static, mixed or completely dynamic based on solutions such as CMS, implementing Gamera WET is always highly recommended. The continuous monitoring activity actually allows the system to objectively evaluate (similarly perceived by an external user) your website, bringing to the surface potential problems on quality (eg. connection problems with your website, the presence of broken links to pages managed or not managed by you) and problems on accessibility (eg. modification of CMS templates, or inserting content that has damaged the formal validity of your files).
- 4. Is Gamera WET capable of checking my Intranet?
-
At present Gamera WET technology is oriented towards evaluation of websites that are publicly available. Developing an automatic evaluation function for Intranets and internal content management systems is not being considered at this point in time. The latter are strongly based on the completion of forms and client-side programming objects. They would also require manual adjustment using assisted evaluation tools carried out by technical personnel.
- 5. Can Gamera WET provide information on the level of conformity of my website with reference to WCAG?
-
Gamera WET has been designed by professionals who are involved in research on web accessibility at an international level which emerged as a result of the Web Accessibility Initiative. Gamera WET is capable of carrying out checks and automatic evaluation tests directly related to the Web Conent Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 1.0, as recommended by W3C on 5 May 1999. The creation of WCAG 2.0 is already at an advanced stage of development which became W3C Recommendation (11 December 2008), currently only available in English.
- 6. What is the main difference between Gamera WET and other accessibility evaluation tools available free on the web?
-
The most common accessibility and quality automatic checking systems available on the web (e.g. HTML code validation), are only capable of evaluating one page at a time. They are web page evaluation tools. As for Gamera WET, it is capable of automatically evaluating a series of web pages that are part of one or more web sites. It is for this reason referred to as a web site evaluation tool.
